Around Aberdeen: War Memorial
Aberdeen boasts a beautiful war memorial outside the Robert Gordon University. The most prominent element is a statue of a lion. The site serves specifically to remember the honored dead from Aberdeen's universities from World War I and World War II. Gus and I fondly remember walking through downtown Aberdeen on Remembrance Day, when Aberdeen's veterans packed the city center to remember the fallen and acknowledge the value of their own service. The war memorial was a poignant focal point on that day, and every time I pass by it, it reminds me of the Scots (and other Brits) who fought and died alongside America's patriots over the course of the last century. It's a beautiful reminder.
